Dr. Veselin Jungić
Simon Fraser University

Dr. Veselin Jungić is a Professor Emeritus at the Department of Mathematics, Simon Fraser University. He is a 3M National Teaching Fellow and an Emeritus Fellow of the Canadian Mathematical Society. He was a recipient of both the Canadian Mathematical Society Excellence in Teaching Award and the Adrien Pouliot Award.

 

Throughout his career, Veselin was an active promoter of mathematics among broad academic and non-academic communities.

Dr. Lynda Colgan
Queen's University

Lynda Colgan is Professor Emerita, Faculty of Education, Queen’s University. She began her tenure-track position in Elementary Mathematics Education at Duncan McArthur Hall in 1998 after a 25-year career with the Scarborough Board of Education. During her time with the Scarborough Board, she was a secondary mathematics and science/biology teacher; a Grade 5 classroom teacher; Vice-Principal; computers in education District-wide Consultant; and K-Grade 12 Mathematics Coordinator. In the latter two roles, she was responsible for curriculum development and implementation, large-scale assessment and evaluation and data-based professional development in 218 schools that served 81,000 students. Her work in public mathematics education was achieved through the publication of newspaper columns, development of educational television shows, writing of children’s books and founding and coordinating Science Rendezvous Kingston. Lynda has been the recipient of many awards for her work in mathematics, technology and community outreach, including the Marshall McLuhan Distinguished Teacher Award; Jonathan Borwein Mathematics Ambassador Award; NSERC Individual Award for Science Promotion; Margaret Sinclair Memorial Award for Innovation and Excellence in mathematics Education; Queen’s Distinguished Service Award; Golden Apple Teaching Award; OAME Award for Outstanding Contribution to Mathematics Education in Ontario; and King Charles Coronation Medal.

Deanna Needell
UBC/UCLA

Deanna Needell earned her PhD from UC Davis before working as a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University. She was a full professor of mathematics at UCLA, the Dunn Family Endowed Chair in Data Theory, and the Executive Director for UCLA's Institute for Digital Research and Education until recently transitioning to the University of British Columbia as a Professor of Mathematics. She is also the Co-Director, Programs, at the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS). She has earned  awards including the Alfred P. Sloan fellowship, an NSF CAREER and other awards, the IMA prize in Applied Mathematics, is a 2022 American Mathematical Society (AMS) Fellow and a 2024 Society for industrial and applied mathematics (SIAM) Fellow. She has been a research professor fellow at several top research institutes including the SLMath (formerly MSRI) and Simons Institute in Berkeley. She also serves as associate editor for several journals including Linear Algebra and its Applications, the SIAM Journal on Imaging Sciences, and the AMS Bulletin, as well as on the organizing committee for SIAM sessions and the Association for Women in Mathematics.

Dr. Malabika Pramanik
University of British Columbia

Malabika Pramanik is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of British Columbia and Scientific Director of the Banff International Research Station. Her research lies in harmonic analysis, geometric measure theory, and fractal geometry, with particular interests in singular and maximal operators, oscillatory phenomena, and connections with additive and geometric combinatorics. She received her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, following undergraduate and master's studies at the Indian Statistical Institute. She is a recipient of the CMS Krieger-Nelson Prize and a Fellow of both the Canadian Mathematical Society and the American Mathematical Society. She currently serves as a Vice-President of the American Mathematical Society.
